So, can we all just agree that when you get married, you get fat?
(For those few couples out there who like, work out together, diet together, and are all fit and happy, shut up, you're not real)
We (mostly me) have been trying so hard to make some lifestyle changes. We don't eat junk food, but we don't eat super-duper healthy food either. We don't work out, but we're not couch potatoes either. We're just.... meh. And once in a while one of us will work out and feel awesome, and we'll have like, a super healthy dinner. But then we wake up, and bad habits start back in.
I remember when we were dating. Mark and I were both pretty darn fit! I dare say, skinny!
Then we got married.
All of a sudden, I'm a wife, and LOVE to cook. And I'm not talking quinoa cakes and zucchini fries.
And all of a sudden, Mark's a husband. And LOVES to eat. And while I have tried healthy, Pinterest-inspired delicacies, they don't go over well with Mark. He just grimaces, and goes to get a bowl of cereal. But we still tried to be healthy, even though we weren't perfect.
But when did we stop caring?
Today before church, while Mark was getting ready, he looks at himself, slaps his belly, grabs it all in his hands, and says, "Well, this is just who I am! And there's nothing I can do about it!"
And I laughed, and joined in about my chubby chubs.
And we both laughed about how we are just going to get fatter and fatter, and made jokes about just giving up on our bodies and just being blobs.
And it was funny... for the moment.
But it got me thinking. This isn't who we are, and we CAN do something about it! And i'm not just talking about being a little chubby. I'm talking about our lack of motivation, energy, and confidence. There are so many reasons to get physically fit, and being able to fit into our old clothes would be awesome.
This changes, now!
Anyone got any good tips on how to get (and stay) in shape? Obviously we need to exercise and eat better (and less), but have any of you tried anything fun or different that worked for you? We're open to any ideas!
Love,
Mr. and Mrs. Chubbers
I love you guys! Maybe hearing it from a single guy won't have any interest to you but I just wanna say something maybe a little motivational. I can imagine it's easier when you're single to be motivated because you're trying to attract someone to be your baby making partner. I know many people who lose the motivation once they get married. Even as a single guy I lose sight of why I want to be healthy, skinny, fit or however you wanna call it. Being sexy for a girl isn't my main motivation anymore because I'm sick of trying to impress the girls that are vain and will only take a quick glance at a guy and decide if they wanna hang out with him or not based on looks. I just feel better when I'm eating healthy and working out. I'm happier when I do that. Sure my wallet my be a little lighter because eating healthier is pricier but I find it worth it. I wanna be fit...for me. You must find your motivation on why you want to be fit. Is it because we are commanded to? Is it for better sex (not that I know what I'm talking about there)? Is it to not feel embarrassed when leaving the house? You must find what motivates you, then doing the necessary steps afterwards (whatever they are) will be discovered. You will try new things until you find what you like but you won't give up because you have the motivation. Talk to Heavenly Father about it and he will help. Love you guys.

The site skinnytaste.com really has helped us. They are healthy and pretty yummy too. I'm struggling with the same thing, but have finally decided enough is enough. Losing weight is 70% what you eat and 30% exercise. So if you only have time for one, change what you eat. I've been counting calories and it hasn't been too hard. We keep less treats around the house and my husband gets treats when he's out and about if he needs one. It does get hard when there are parties or get togethers or meals with others. Because America eats crap. I don't have any advice about that, because I caved. If it's there I'll eat it, so at home, I can't have those things around. Good LUCK! It's a constant battle.
ReplyDeleteLOL - OMG….. This has me seriously laughing out loud. You know what I think. EAT FOR YOUR BLOOD TYPE. (WHat is Marks?)
ReplyDeletemom and dad are using the biggest loser family cookbook, after a month of no exercise and just using those meals they have both lost two pant sizes! and mom says there have only been two recipes they didn't Luke! alpha and I use Jillian Michaels videos, they are 30 minute workouts but boy do you feel it! actually they are 20 minute workouts with a 5 min warm up and a 5 minute cool down but seeing as you're preggers (congrats!) you may just want to stick to the cookbook until next June lol
